Plasma cutters are capable of cutting metals in simple and complex shapes including producing holes, bevel edges, gouging, and markings. Plasma is a cost effective and practical alternative to oxy-fuel, laser and water jet cutting processes and is used in industrial, trade and DIY applications. Plasma cutters are used in all types of industries including [.]

Sep 15, 2014· This is sort of an out of the ordinary job for us. As such we are not really equipped to efficiently remove that much weld. My options are either grinder or plasma cutter. I need to avoid damaging the machine base. This is the joint in question: I have done a little carbon arc gouging, but no plasma gouging.

Aug 14, 2019· The plasma arc welding process is normally compared to the gas tungsten arc process : The plasma torch contains an electrode made out of tungsten fixed in a nozzle which is made of copper . The arc is started between the electrode and the tip of nozzle. Then the arc or flame is transferred to the material to be welded.

The rap on the carbon arc torch was that it might introduce unwanted carbon contamination to the weld. This was much more of a factor with single-carbon welding, a process that really is obsolete, and not much of a factor with twin-carbon welding as long as you weren't welding touchy, high-tech steels.

Arcair® Air Carbon-Arc Gouging Products. ArcAir is a world leader in air carbon-arc gouging products and another powerful brand of Victor Technologies, Inc. ArcAir manufactures carbon-arc gouging systems, exothermic arc cutting systems, underwater cutting torches, welding electrodes and more. They offer a complete line of products for ...

An operator uses the air carbon-arc gouging process to back-gouge a weld on a barge. Typical applications include the back-gouging of weld seams to reach the deposited weld metal from the other side of the workpiece, the removal of gates and risers from castings, the removal of old or excess weld metal so that equipment can be repaired and the ...

We at Taiwan plasma corporation are constantly striving to add the application for electric arc plasma energy. Nowadays to increase the productivity, metal removal by scarfing is becoming a new trend instead of carbon arc gouging or welding electrode gouging.

Dec 12, 2019· Required equipment includes an air compressor, welding power source, carbon electrode and a gouging torch. The air carbon arc process is shown in figure 10-75. Comparison to Other Processes. Air carbon arc cutting and metal removal differ from plasma arc cutting in that they employ an open (unconstricted) arc, which is independent of the gas jet.

Arc-air® Gouging Plasma Gouging Gouging processes MAGYS 500 GR / 500 WS CUTTER 85A / CUTTER 125A TRI. 2 June 2017 - Gouging processes The purpose of this process is to use copper coated carbon gouging electrodes for a good transfer between the electrode and the metal. The melted metal is removed by APPLICATIONS • Remove defective welds ...

I usually don't push the welder past 325 amps when arc gouging. However, sometimes I do max out for a hard push on 5/16" rods. I like the ArcAir 2000 series with a 1/4" rod for small work. The XMT always performs well. This particular welder has been running stick, wire, and carbon .

Coupled with a dependable design, the durable Vantage 549X can handle an extensive range of jobs from heavy-duty carbon arc gouging to advanced pulse welding. Now better than ever, the machine features CrossLinc® Technology to provide welders with greater control at the arc to help improve safety, productivity, and weld quality.

The use of the plasma arc as a gouging tool dates back to the 1960s when the process was developed for welding. Compared with the alternative oxyfuel and MMA gouging techniques, plasma arc has a needle-like jet which can produce a very precise groove, suitable for application on almost all ferrous and non- ferrous materials.

Feb 26, 2006· Hello agong, I would only add one small note to the comment regarding use of a gouging tip on a plasma cutter. If the plasma is running compressed air you will need to do some grinding to prepare the area prior to welding and even if the plasma is of the type that is using mixed cutting gases you will still need to do some grind prep to avoid contamination issues in the finished weld.

Plasma gouging is a fast, simple, and quiet way to remove metal. Four different gouging methods are in common use today: mechanical, oxyfuel, carbon arc, and plasma. Mechanical grinding can involve hand grinding, hand milling, routing, or chipping. Oxyfuel gouging involves using fuel gas to heat steel to its ignition temperature. Once the metal ...

Nov 21, 2000· American Welding Society (AWS) C5 Committee on Arc Welding and Cutting Under the Direction of the AWS Technical Activities Committee Approved by the AWS Board of Directors Abstract This publication establishes a method of conveying to the welder/operator the proper setup and use of air carbon arc gouging and cutting.

Arcair®is a leader in air carbon arc gouging, exothermic cutting and underwater cutting and welding products, providing a complete line for a wide-range of industry uses. Products include manual and automated gouging equipment, torches, accessories and carbon electrodes.

Jun 30, 2013· Air carbon-arc gouging began in the 1940s, evolving from the existing carbon-arc cutting process. Myron Stepath, a welding engineer, developed air carbon-arc gouging to remove several hundred feet of flat, cracked, stainless steel weld. Previously, carbon-arc cutting removed overhead and vertical defective welds and rivet heads.

Mar 01, 2003· Page 4 of 5. Plasma Arc Cutting Hazards. Mar 01, 2003; THIS is the fourth in the series of articles on welding safety. The central theme of these articles has been to emphasize that welding.

However, any three-phase welding power source of sufficient capacity may be used for air carbon arc gouging. The arc voltage used in air carbon arc gouging and cutting ranges from a low of 35 to a high of 56 volts; thus the open-circuit voltage should be at least 60 volts. The actual arc voltage is governed by arc length and the type of gouging.

Jun 29, 2018· "The underwater carbon arc gouging (Hydro-arc gouging) we do is actually quite critical because we are now able to remove the weld itself underwater and, with some grinding, put it back up. Whereas traditional cutting equipment for underwater is quite messy and you will end up with a jagged edge that you can't weld back up."
