Titanium alloy blades are significantly important parts for aero-engine, and their special outline and production status requires an efficient and low-cost production process. In this paper, a new sequence for forming the titanium alloy blade using cross-wedge rolling (CWR) and isothermal forging was proposed. A finite element (FE) numerical model which contains the entire sequence, including ...

The process of cross wedge rolling is suitable to produce preforms which represent an optimum between material saving and forging without defects. It can also be used to form axisymmetric forgings like gear shafts. The utilization of material can be increased up to 98 percent. Cross wedge rolling with flat tools offers the following advantages:

Cold Cross Wedge Rolling is used mainly for the manufacture of axisymmetric parts, allowing the molding pressure at normal temperatures and compressions. Cold rolling advantages: improvement of strength properties as a result of strain hardening, high dimensional accuracy, almost the final shape and high quality of the surface of the part.

For the purpose of characterizing excess initial slip, the critical value of interfacial friction in the cross wedge rolling (CWR) process is investigated. After describing CWR and its failure mechanisms, an analytical method is presented for determining the critical friction condition in a cross wedge rolling .

Regardless of process variants, the geometrical parameters of cross wedge tools are the forming angle α, the wedge angle β, the workpiece diameter d o, the reduced diameter d, and the reduced cross-sectional length 2 l.The angle α is located between the rolling plane and the forming plane. The angle β is situated between the rolling direction and the shoulder plane and defines the forming ...

The article presents the issue of material fracture during the process of cross-wedge rolling (CWR). The object of the research was the process of forming a harrow tooth preform. In the conducted analysis nine damage criteria were applied. The critical value of damage was determined with a new calibrating test, basing on rotational compression of a sample in a channel.

Cross-wedge rolling line; Cross-wedge rolling line. Highly specialized, metal saving, highly efficient class of equipment is used for forming of axisymmetric parts under the pressure by altering their cross-section by the method of cold, warm (t=500 - 700°C) and hot (t=1000 - 1250°C) rolling.

Feb 11, 2014· Till now, the cross wedge rolling machine is the best resolve for step shaft production.Cross Wedge Rolling is an advanced forming process suitable for manufacturing of multi-shoulder shaft The ...

In cross rolling processes used in industrial practice (Fig. 1(a)), a wedge segment cuts for a demanded depth in the material, forming a wedged groove on its perimeter. In the next phase, as a result of the actions of forming (side) surfaces of tool segments, the groove is spread from the center toward the frontal surfaces of the object, for a demanded width.

Apr 01, 2020· One of the most frequent failure modes in cross wedge rolling (CWR) is material fracture occurring in the axial zone of the workpiece, also known as the Mannesmann effect. The fracture in cross wedge rolling has the shape of either axial (2-roll CWR) or ring-like (3-roll CWR) longitudinal cracks . Download : Download high-res image (156KB)

About the IPH. The Institut für Integrierte Produktion Hannover (IPH) gemeinnützige (which literally translates into Hannover institute of integrated production) is a service provider for production technology and was established in 1988 at the Leibniz University in Hannover.

By adjustments in the welding process, it was possible to apply the 100Cr6 rolling bearing steel, as of now declared as non-weldable, on the low-cost steel C22.8. 100Cr6 was formed afterwards in its hybrid bonding state with C22.8 by cross-wedge rolling, thus a .

Sep 08, 2017· Cross wedge rolling is a plastic deformation process carried out at elevated temperatures to exploit the advantage of lesser deformation forces. The initial work piece is mostly cylindrical in shape and is deformed into stepped parts by the tangential movement of .

Oct 30, 2016· The paper discusses the problems of forming parts such as stepped shafts by cross wedge rolling (CWR). In industrial practice, this rolling process is performed at stages, i.e., in several passes, when large cross-sectional reductions are involved. The same can also be done using a different design of this forming process, namely, multi-wedge cross rolling (MWCR), in which the workpiece is ...

Key words: forming, cross wedge rolling, stepped shaft, numerical modeling, FEM INTRODUCTION Cross wedge rolling (CWR) is a manufacturing technique in which products are formed by the action of wedge-shaped tools. The tools are mounted either on rolls or on flat or concave rolling machine plates. The CWR technology is used to produce axisymmetric

Cross wedge rolling has proven to be an economical and reproducible means of producing preforms for forging operations. The process control is far superior to traditional manual drawing operations. DEFORM can be used to optimize the rolled shape in the blocker or finished forging dies. This typically results in a much higher material yield than ...

Cross-wedge rolling (CWR) is an incremental forming method for producing rotationally symmetric components such as a basic shape of gear shaft or a preform before impression die forging. In CWR the material of a solid cylindrical billet is redistributed in axial direction while the billet diameter is reduced. Conventional CWR cannot be used to ...

1. Introduction. Cross wedge rolling (CWR) is a more and more popular metal forming method. It consists in forming axi-symmetric parts with the use of two or three wedge tools that are fixed either to the rolls or to flat or concave roll mill plates.

Cross wedge rolling, like reducer rolling, is a process used to produce preforms, most commonly employed in the automotive industry. This rolling technique combines high productivity, long die life and good material efficiency (no waste produced). Simulation of this preform process allows determining the distribution of state variables ...
