We have a Tree mill at work. Everybody else hates it because they can't get the tools to stay in. I love the machine, I'm one of the few that can use it w/o trouble. Heck, I like it so much I bought one for my home shop. I think they are just like any other machine. Ya just gotta find that sweet spot for it.

I don't believe there's a quill feed available for the 16L cutterhead. For customers that wanted a quill, Van Norman made an entirely different mill. I have a 1RQ Van Norman. The "Q" stands for quill. Its cutterhead assembly is completely different. It might mount onto a standard 1R, though. I don't think there is a 16-series machine with a quill.

As stated above, the Tree machines are easy to work on and were one of the best verticles made in it's day.
